Meals and Nutrition

At Grena Road Day Nursery and Preschool, we offer a varied and nutritionally balanced diet, essential to every child’s development and active participation during their time at nursery and at home.  Children attending a full day at our nursery will enjoy breakfast, morning and afternoon snack, a hot lunch with pudding and a light tea.

Seasonal produce
All our meals reflect seasonal local produce and are prepared daily with ingredients selected for their absolute freshness and quality.  By always focusing on ‘fresh is best’, Spencer, our fully trained Chef, does not use salt, pepper, sugar, colouring, artificial flavourings or additives to excite our children’s taste buds!

Every child is an individual
In addition to milk or water at meal times, drinking water is always available throughout the day. Our children develop their independence by choosing their own cups and our babies enjoy one to one care from their Key Person.  This personalised approach ensures our staff support you and your baby when your baby develops from milk to pureed, finely chopped, chopped or normal foods.  Our delicious meals and positive approach to meal times ensure any child’s eating habits are developed with patience, understanding and a lot of encouragement.

We celebrate and value diversity with exciting menus which reflect each individual child’s requirements (allergies, intolerances, religion and culture).  Our families through the Parent Nursery Association and daily chats with their child’s Key Person support the nursery chef in planning and selecting recipes for their nursery menu.

From the recent Ofsted report "The quality of the meals and snacks is a real strength of the provision. Children enjoy healthy, balanced, hygenically prepared menus."

Winning Awards
Our nursery was awarded with 5 star rating in a routine inspection by Richmond Council Environmental Health & Licensing Division. The inspection, called Scores on the Door, is the No. 1 national food hygiene rating scheme where you can find the official local hygiene rating for food businesses. This scheme is to make sure that the food we supply is safe to eat and that we comply with food safety legislation. This scheme allows the public to view the latest assessment of food hygiene standards made by officers following their inspections. The score is in the form of a star rating ranging from five to zero stars, where five stars shows excellent standards and zero stars indicates that major improvements are required.
